In a largely futile way but one that is meaningful to me, the pictures on the front page are a montage of recent news footage from yesterday, which I'm calling 3/11, and two 19th century Hiroshige prints from Japan. I was struck by the similarity in visual style while on the jacks looking at the book in utter desperation. Almost as if the artist was also a prophet in Edo (Tokyo) all those years ago. The montage is done as a "Garment of Sorrows" in Photoshop, for the people of Japan and for Lent 2011. Feel free to copy, save and distribute them on the net, whatever.
